After graduating from UNI with a B.A. degree in physics, James Arns accepted a position with the Hughes Aircraft Company, where he spent 14 years working in the area of holography. In 1993, he joined Kaiser Optical Systems as a principal optical systems engineer. His responsibilities there have been for developing Volume Phase Holographic (VPH) technology and VPH-based optical gratings for use in military, scientific, and telecommunications applications. He has ten U.S. patents with two applications pending and has authored or co-authored ten articles on VPH gratings. In 1991, he received Hughes Aircraft's Hyland Patent Award, the company's highest recognition to inventors responsible for patents considered significant to the future of the company.



 

Dr. David C. Faber

David Faber serves as the president of Trans Ova Genetics, one of the leading bovine embryo transfer companies in the U.S. In 1997, he was instrumental in the development of a new division at Trans Ova, specializing in the production of transgenic farm animals. He is also involved in grain and livestock farming operations in Illinois and Iowa, particularly in the management of beef and pork production systems. Dr. Faber also serves on the board of directors of Pro Edge Ltd. and is a past board member of the American Embryo Transfer Association. He holds B.S. and D.V.M. degrees from the University of Illinois.

Brenda Good is the director of administration and finance at the Radio and Television Center at Eastern Illinois University. A UNI graduate with a B.A. in mathematics and a Coe College graduate with a B.S. in accounting, she has taught junior high mathematics and was the manager of research at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa.

Robert Good practices internal medicine at the Carle Clinic Association in Mattoon, Ill., where he serves as the medical director of physician services. After receiving a B.A. in biology from UNI, he graduated (D.O. with Distinction) from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine. Dr. Good practiced in Iowa for 15 years before moving to Illinois. He was named Iowa Physician of the Year in 1989 and Illinois Physician of the Year in 2001. He is past president of the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, and is currently a clinical instructor of internal medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Patricia Larson is associate general counsel in the Office of the General Counsel of the American Bar Association. Her experience includes all aspects of complex commercial, product liability, personal injury, civil rights and maritime cases at two major law firms. She has been a litigation associate at Jenner & Block, LLC, in Chicago, and with Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP, in Philadelphia. Earlier in her career, she served as a federal judicial law clerk at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and as a federal judicial intern at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Ms. Larson was awarded a B.A. degree with honors from UNI, where she majored in mathematics and secondary teaching, and a J.D. degree, cum laude, from Temple University Beasley School of Law.

David Naffziger is a senior research scientist with Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories, where he searches for and evaluates new technology for the pest management market. He also serves as an adviser for new product development and is working to develop an international market for Whitmire Micro-Gen technology. He joined the company in 1986 as assistant manager of research and development, was promoted to director of research and development and the regulatory process in 1995, and to senior research scientist in 2000. He began his career as product development manager with Dow Chemical Company, where he worked for over 13 years. He has a B.A. degree in chemistry from UNI and an M.S. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Iowa.

Kevin Smith practices podiatric medicine at Des Moines University, where he serves as associate dean for clinical affairs. After receiving a B.A. in biology from UNI, he graduated from Des Moines University and completed a surgical residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic, NJ. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr. Smith also served as the director of the surgical residency at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.

Larry Smith is a consultant geophysicist who has over 20 years of oil industry experience working exploration projects in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, Turkmenistan, and Alaska. He is an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and is currently an officer of the Geophysical Society of Alaska. He has a B.A. degree in geology from UNI and an M.Sc. in geology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

A 25-year veteran of the information technology profession, Randy Wadle started his career with GTE (now Verizon) and then moved to Maytag, where he progressed through various applications development and IT management roles before becoming vice president of information technology. Before joining Aviva, he was with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, where he was vice president of information technology. He has a B.S. in mathematics and physics from UNI and an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa.

A 1970 UNI graduate, Michael Williams taught junior and senior high school life and physical science courses for 38 years in the Keota school district and developed courses in "Science and Society" and "Consumer Chemistry." He was actively involved in his school, through faculty committees, athletics, teacher development and student governance. He is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and the Iowa State Education Association and has held executive positions in his local education association. He holds an M.A. degree in science education from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO.

At Honeywell, she received numerous awards for successful product launches, including the Minnesota Technology Award and Best in Class Advertising. While working as CIO/senior vice president at Kelly Services, she was recognized nationally as one of Information Week's top 500 CIOs listed as the "most innovative users of technology."
