Mathematical, Computational and Physical Sciences
(MCaPS) Scholarships
The University of Northern Iowa is providing scholarships of up to $7000 per year for academically talented students interested in the mathematical, computational, or physical sciences. These scholarships are intended to support students who may be first-generation college students, from a group underrepresented in traditional MCaPS areas (women, ethnic minorities), or who have financial need. MCaPS are renewable and include support for student research, travel to conferences, and summer tuition.
Students are required to major in one of the following programs:

Computer Science
Computer Science
Bioinformatics
Networking and System Administration
Computer Information Systems
Earth Science
Air Quality

Earth Science: Interpretive Naturalist
Geology
Geology:Environmental
Mathematics
Mathematics
Applied Mathematics
Statistics and Actuarial Science
Mathematics Teaching
Physics
Physics
Applied Physics
Applied Physics/Engineering

Applicants must complete the online Common Scholarship Application for CNS Science, Technology and Mathematics Scholarships, including the submission of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov to be considered for the MCaPS.
Deadline for submission of application and all other materials is January 15, 2010.
To retain the scholarships students must:
1. Continue to make progress in one of the MCaPS majors (listed above).
2. Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8.
3. Participate in seminars designed to assist with the transition into college and to help maintain academic excellence.
4. Meet regularly with a faculty mentor.
