CNS Help desk Supported Desktop Software List
This is a list of operating systems and software which the CNS
help desk staff is able to provide support for. This list is
intended as a general guide for office and desktop use. We are
aware of specialty applications and hardware throughout the
College and of their necessity for teaching, research, etc..
When a request comes in for help with software not on this
list for valid non-office desktop use, we will try to help
with the request, however if it becomes too time consuming
when other requests are on the rise, the user will either be
on their own or in for a long wait. In these cases the user
is expected to read the documentation available from the
vendor and familiarize themselves with the software or
hardware chosen for use, before seeking our help.
If the software currently installed on the computer that needs
service is not on this list we may not provide any support,
particularly for historically troublesome applications. We do
not restrict anyone from using the software of their choice,
we simply may not be available to help with it.
Some programs may conflict with other software working correctly.
Once again we might not provide any support, even for software on
this list, when there are conflicts caused by some unlisted
program on your system.
CNS Help desk services are generally limited to fixing broken
applications and installing patches and updates, as well as
initial installation. We are not available for tutoring on
usage. ITS runs several classes on usage which can be quite
helpful for a relatively small investment of time.
