Using WinSCP
For connecting to CNS Server
What is WinSCP?
WinSCP is a program that allows users to connect to a file server using a secure connetion such as SecureFTP or SSH. By using these connection a user will be able to transfer files easily between their local computer and the file server.
Download and Installing WinSCP
Please click here to download WinSCP. Run the file once downloaded - you should only have to click "Next" and "Finish". The program will automatically have a profile to connect to the Faculty server.
NOTE: This is the same installer that is install on all computer joined to the AD-ITS domain.
Running WinSCP
To run the program please do the following:
- Start > All Programs > Internet > WinSCP3 > Choose_Server_Here
- User name - Type in your LDAP (Linux) user name here.
- Password - Type in your LDAP (Linux) password here.
- Protocol - Make sure to choose SCP
- Login - Click this button when ready to login
- Warning - If you see a Warning message regarding host key click Yes
Transferring Files
When you get logged into the server you will see your local computer's files in the left pane and the servers files in the right pane. You can now browse through the local and server directory to select files you wish to transfer.
Helpful Tips
- You can use the dropdown menu about each pane (local and server) to browse to different directories/drives quickly.
- Use the folder with the up arrow on it to move up on directory
- Click a file or folder and drag it to the other pane to copy the file there.
