CNS Update 2008-07-18
Server Migration
CNS will be migrating to the new server the weekend of August 8-10. This migration will include combining Math-CS and Faculty server to a new server purchased last year. ITS will begin to queue CNS email beginning Friday, August 8 at 5:00pm. We expect to finish the migration Friday night. We will have an updated status on the CNS Support on this web page. We will also be posting links on mail client configurations that need to be changed and some other information regarding what to expect from the changes. NOTE: if your email client is setup to use UNI's email system this migration will not have any impact on your email.
Domain Software Updates
All computers on the domain will get software updates to standard set of programs on weekend of August 1st. This will include new versions of Firefox, Thunderbird, Symantec Anti-Virus, Microsoft Office 2007, and a few other programs. The install should take roughly 15-30 minutes when computers are rebooted. If you see a message notifying you programs are "Removing" or "Installing" software after a reboot, please be patient and wait for the process to finish.
Software Testing Needed
We have almost finished installing all the requested software in the labs for Fall 2008. If we have contacted your department for testing, please take the time to test the software. Once tested, please email manager@cns.uni.edu with the status of the software so we know if it's working or not for you. We have only heard back from a few people who have tested thus far. Software testing is VERY important to ensure the software will work properly for your classes in the Fall; we can not be experts on the 200+ programs we have to manage.
