The University of Northern Iowa solar electric boat team won fourth place in overall championship results and third place qualifying in the 14th World Championship of Intercollegiate Solar Boating hosted by University of Arkansas, College of Engineering, Fayetteville, Arkansas.

UNI team’s design and engineering visual display with a prototype Panther boat model also received third highest points in the event. The five-day Solar Splash competition began Wednesday, June 13, and concluded Sunday, June 17. The 2007 champion is Cedarville University from Ohio with 974.05 total pts. University of Arkansas ranked second with 895.43 pts, Istanbul Technical University from Turkey ranked third with 791.11 and the UNI ranked fourth with 779.14 total pts.

The teams ranked after Northern Iowa are University of South Carolina, US Naval Academy, Cal-Poly Pomona, Kansas State University, Marquette University, and Carnegie Mellon University, Canadian Ecole de Technologie Superieure, Louisiana State, Temple University, Marquette University, Elizabethtown College, and Middle Tennessee University. UNI missed the third place to Turkish solar boat team with only 12 points difference.
