Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 13:30 From: Mark Jacobson To: 810-022-01@uni.edu Subject: Not to worry... Hi 022 students, 1. You do NOT have to do anything with today's handout. It was given out so that you would have it ahead of time for next Wednesday's lab, where we will look at it and use it. 2. If you did not get the ord9703.txt file from the P: drive Jacobson folder to your Z: drive, don't worry about it. I'll make sure we all get caught up on the Lesson2.xls workbook on Wednesday in lab. 3. If you are weak or rusty at Excel or had an 021 class or Business class where they did not do much with spreadsheets, or even skipped them, don't worry about it. I don't assume that you remember anything from your prerequisite course. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have both classes next week in the Wright 112 lab, and then meet in WRIGHT 5 the following week. Wright 5 is a great classroom compared to Wright 106, and I can put the cart in Wright 5 before my 11 class, as Janet Drake will use it or keep an eye on it during her class. Next Wednesday's lab: We will create a macro to import a file again, just for review. Some students did NOT get it created and did NOT get the TEXT FILE ord9603.txt from the P:\JACOBSON\022\Lists folder to their Z: drive. Sorry I went to fast today! You are NOT EXPECTED to know what we did in lab until after we have followup lecture classes and handouts. ----- The goal of lab is to give hands-on experience and see what Excel and macros can do. If I want you to take the time to write down something in lab, I will point that out and give you time. The critical concepts and skills from the hands-on classes that I want you to know will be gone over either: enough times in labs that they become 2nd nature, or else gone over in followup lectures and handouts extensively enough that you understand what you did in the lab the previous week and can apply it to some assignment you get the following week. SO DO NOT WORRY IF YOU ARE WEAK AT EXCEL OR IF YOU DID NOT GET THE IMPORTFILE macro recorded today or understand most of what we did! Have a good Labor Day weekend. Mark
